Illinois Association of Realtors - What is the IAR and what is their mission?

IAR is the Illinois Association Realtors, and their mission basically breaks into two major categories.

  1. Advocacy
  2. Professionalism

IAR is a state wide association for licensed Real Estate Brokers who then opt into becoming Realtors. To become a Realtor is an extra step, an extra credential.

As a Realtor, you’re promising to adhere to a code of ethics - a code of professionalism and rules that you have to abide by that not only pertain to the law, but actually go above and beyond.

On the advocacy side, is lobbying. IAR works with state, local, federal government to make sure that they're not doing things that hurt consumers which in turn hurt ultimately property owners. People who are investing in property fall under that category, and they often find a lot of the issues to work on really directly involve landlords, property investors, and housing providers.

Strategic Priorities for the IAR:

  • Advocacy
  • Education
  • Ethics
  • Legal
  • Outreach
